5 things you do regularly in your job
  • Deliver advice on environmental issues
  • Manage research contracts
  • Deliver training in environmental survey and monitoring
  • Undertake survey and monitoring projects
  • Write articles and scientific papers
What made you decide to do this type of job? (teacher/ role model etc) I have a background in biological research and survey work, so this is a logical extension of this.
How did you get to where you are now? Degree in Zoology, PhD in avian ecology, research post overseas followed by joining NCC (SNH predecessor) in 1989.
What motivates you? Doing science, communicating science, but also a love of the outdoors and the value of a well managed environment.
Any other info? E.g. activities you have done with schools, what you can offer schools etc. Knowledge of academia, importance of scientific understanding of the world.  Practical experience in managing projects and how to apply results to real life situations.
