| 5 things you do regularly in your job |
|
| What made you decide to do this type of job? (teacher/ role model etc) | I loved to swim and do outdoor sports in general, so I was keen to have a job with an outdoor element. Through swimming, trips to the beach and learning to dive I developed a keen interest in the marine environment and it’s conservation. |
| How did you get to where you are now? | During university holidays I would do environmental volunteer work. I then started working for a charity before joining CEFAS. I decided to do a PhD in marine conservation as I wanted to progress in the profession. Up until this time, my work had a very academic focus and I was keen to get involved in industry as this offered a different way of influencing environmental management and conservation. I joined a consultancy, where I advised on offshore projects, in particular renewable energy and then I moved on to join SeaEnergy Renewables as their Consents and Environmental Manager. |
| What motivates you? | Protection of the environment upon which we all depend. |
| Any other info? E.g. activities you have done with schools, what you can offer schools etc. | I’ve worked in various countries, including Russia, St Lucia, Malaysia, the Philippines and the UK. I specialized originally in marine protected areas before moving onto shellfish conservation and then renewable energy. As part of these roles, I have developed different projects to engage with communities and share the diverse experiences I have had. |
