| 5 things you do regularly in your job |
|
| What made you decide to do this type of job? (teacher/ role model etc) | I feel that there is a need for more hands-on science teaching in schools, as too many children think that science is boring. I aim to produce resources that enable teachers to show children the more interesting side of science, and therefore encourage them to pursue careers in STEM subjects. |
| How did you get to where you are now? |
Degree in Genetics from Glasgow University. Masters in Science Communication from Dublin City University. |
| What motivates you? | The belief that young people must receive a good education in STEM subjects, and that science must be taught in an interesting and informative way in order to encourage young people to study STEM subjects at a higher level and pursue careers in the area. |
| Any other info? E.g. activities you have done with schools, what you can offer schools etc. | For primary schools a wide number of activities can be provided. For secondary schools genetics activities can be provided, for example DNA extraction experiments, and the ethical issues raised by genetics. |
