5 things you do regularly in your job
  • Produce educational resources linked to the curriculum for excellence.
  • CPD sessions for teachers.
  • Workshops for pupils.
  • Produce topical science magazine for teachers.
What made you decide to do this type of job? (teacher/ role model etc) I feel that there is a need for more hands-on science teaching in schools, as too many children think that science is boring.  I aim to produce resources that enable teachers to show children the more interesting side of science, and therefore encourage them to pursue careers in STEM subjects.
How did you get to where you are now? Degree in Genetics from Glasgow University.
Masters in Science Communication from Dublin City University.
What motivates you? The belief that young people must receive a good education in STEM subjects, and that science must be taught in an interesting and informative way in order to encourage young people to study STEM subjects at a higher level and pursue careers in the area.
Any other info? E.g. activities you have done with schools, what you can offer schools etc. For primary schools a wide number of activities can be provided.  For secondary schools genetics activities can be provided, for example DNA extraction experiments, and the ethical issues raised by genetics.
