Bridge to Employment

LifeScan's Bridge to Employment Programme

LifeScan Scotland Ltd as a part of the american company Johnson and Johnson, are taking part in their Bridge to Employment Programme.

The Programme is a partnership of Johnson and Johnson, the Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, UHI and the Scottish Community Foundation.

Six schools in the drive time of Inverness are taking part: Alness Academy, Fortrose Academy, Grantown High School, Invergordon Academy, Inverness Royal Academy and Millburn Academy.

Participating teachers, students and parents had the chance to speak to LifeScan, UHI, Inverness College and Highland Council staff to find out more about the opportunities within the programme.

Teachers are invited to take up placements at Lifescan to experience the daily working life in a medical device company and bring some inspiration into the classroom.

A live Kidney and Liver transplant have so far been broadcast at Inverness College. Students had the opportunity to ask the surgeons at Liberty Science Centre (New Jersey) their questions and it was a great success both times.

Now into its second year, the Programme gives 70 students the opportunity to experience college life at the STEMinars. This lecture series runs every Thursday afternoon at Inverness College and STEM Ambassadors provide the links to real life businesses while S4 students revise for their Standard Grades. Have a look at the Ambassador Case Study November 2009 for some of the topics and activities that were covered in the STEMinars.
