For many STEM careers you need to go to university or college and get a relevant degree.

The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) offers a number of courses, including degrees, HNCs, HNDs, and access courses.  They have a network of over 80 learning centres, including campuses in Inverness, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.  UHI also have a number of research centres throughout the region, so after getting your degree there are plenty of STEM related jobs for you in the Highlands and Islands!

The Open University offers long-distance courses that enable you to stay at home while you study and maybe even work at the same time. Have a look at some relevant information.

For information on a large variety of careers, check out the Prospects website.  Although it is the UK's official website for graduates, there is useful information for school pupils, including job descriptions, details on the career path to take to enter the profession, what qualifications are required, and salaries.

Many STEM courses offer the oportunity to do a work placement as part of the course, for example a year working in industry.  This is a good way to get experience, and looks great on your CV!  If this is something that interests you, make sure you check that the university you choose has this option.
