General maths resources
The Open University offers free online modules about different areas of mathematics and statistics. Just click here and choose from 42 modules covering areas like graphs, diagrams, arithmetic and many more.
Another useful Open University site might be mathshelp again with 7 modules about rounding, ratios, squares, and others.
Mathematicswww.mathsroom.co.uk - a general maths website.
The Scottish Mathematical Council - this site has lots of general activities.
www.mathsguru.co.uk - you have to register first and there seems to be a one off fee for the resources, but then updates are free after that. It is an English website. Level 5 is for S1 or bright primary 7 students.
www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/resources/codes brings out the spy in your students. These resources have been developed alongside
www.atm.org.uk - the Association of Mathematics Teachers website. Lots of interactive maths problems.
www.mathsphere.co.uk - go to the link 'teachers and parents like us', and you will find other links to things like 'maths magic' - always well received by students.
The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics has resources for teachers, as does the Millennium Maths Project

Secondary school resources
BP offer the enterprise trading game can be downloaded or ordered (free), students work together in teams, competing to trade oil - resources include films, news slides, a trade calculator spreadsheet, teacher notes and a trader pack. Suitable for S3-S6.
Mathcentre has revision booklets, leaflets and resource packs for you to download, aimed at helping students to make the transition from school-level to university-level maths.
Plus is a magazine about maths and its applications, for older students. One very good teaching resource is 'On thin ice - maths and climate change in the Arctic'. Three different toolkits are available for download: Navigation (geology and GPS), climate change (ice thickness, temperature) and statistics (predictions).
