Renewables Festival June 2009

Our STEM team had a stall at the Eastgate Centre in Inverness this weekend, just where you come in from the Falcon Square:

Lots of people visited us and we gave away lots of information about us, careers and resources that are available to get involved with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Here are some links to fun games and experiments (for those who couldn’t visit us or who would like more information):

For some fun experiments about Renewable Energy, have a look at this site. We chose the solar dogs, anemometer, turbine and hydro power - but all the other ones look good too!

To order a survivalrivals kits for secondary schools or a Great Plant Hunt kit for primary schools, please visit their websites. The materials for the Great Plant Hunut can also be downloaded.

Planet Science: a website full of fun resources for young people, parents and teachers
especially interesting  is the 'Little Book of experiments' that you can download here.
And if you are the parent of very small children, here are some ideas too!

Planet SciCast: information about the film competition, next deadline will be January 2010 but you can send in entries already! So if you would like to take part, keep checking the website when more kits are reprinted or ask us to send you one (we have a secret stash!). There will be a new category in the competition: film about jobs that involve STEM in some way or other!

If you like Sudoku, you can find some that are a bit different at brainfreeze puzzles.

For some experiments out of the BP challenge book, please visit the Royal Society of New Zealand.

For people interested in Marine Biology, have a look at the Smallpeice Trust course.
